Zastrow Family Residence

Loss Event: Chimney Fire

Location: Saginaw, Michigan

Services: Remediation; Packout; Demolition; Smoke Odor Removal; Reconstruction

The Situation:

The owners of this home experienced a tragic fire in their fireplace, devouring their roof and most of the second floor. Understanding the custom nature of the interior of this home and knowing our reputation as a quality, custom home contractor, their insurance agent contacted Wolgast.

Our Solution:

Our mitigation team arrived on scene to install temporary framing and tarp the roof. When it was safe to enter the home, we began content recovery and assisted the insurance adjuster and fire inspector with our man lift to assess the damage to the second floor.

Upon approval from the homeowner and insurance adjuster, we began work on content pack out, cleaning and remediation. The entire roof framing and interior finishes of the home were removed and replaced. Damaged framing was replaced. Interior wall framing was soda blasted and sealed with shellac for odor control, as part of the cleaning process. Our craftsmen were successful in re-creating the stone finish of the fireplace, complete with a hand peeled log mantel made by the owner.

Our custom finish carpenters installed new tongue and groove paneling, hardwood floors and hickory kitchen cabinets. They also installed new marble and travertine tile in the master bath and walk-in shower.

Due to the complexity of this project, Wolgast placed a full-time site foreman to oversee every aspect of the restoration.

The Result:

The content mitigation and reconstruction was completed on time and on budget. Our client was extremely happy with the outcome and reliable, quality service we were able to provide them.
